Chapter History

The University of Hawaii at Manoa believes in excellence, providing numerous opportunities for our Golden Key members to achieve in academics, leadership and service. The 130th Golden Key chapter, University of Hawaii at Manoa was chartered April 10, 1989, as part of U.S. Region 8, which includes colleges/universities in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii. Former Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Doris Ching, and Representative K. Mark Takai, who was student body president in 1989, were founding members of the University of Hawai‛i at Mānoa Chapter.

With almost 3,600 members since 1989, the UH Manoa Golden Key chapter is a large one, and our members have gone on to do great things in their lives. Honorary members include Former Congressman Neil Abercrombie, News Reporter Leslie Wilcox, and Entertainer Frank DeLima.

Our chapter is also very service-oriented; members perform an average of 400 hours per semester. We have maintained Gold Standing for exemplary community outreach and have been awarded various Golden Key distinctions for our commitment to academics, service, and leadership. We invite prospective members who are in the top 15% of their class and interested in service and leadership development.
